Indian Institute of
Technology Guwahati is a public technical and research university established
by the Government of India, located in Guwahati, in the state of Assam in
India. It is the sixth Indian Institute of Technology established in India.
The history of IIT
Guwahati traces its roots to the 1985 Assam Accord signed between the All Assam
Students Union and the Government of India,
which mentions the general improvement in education facilities in Assam and
specifically the setting up of an IIT.
IIT Guwahati was
established in 1994 by an act of parliament and its academic programme
commenced in 1995. IIT Guwahati admitted its first batch of students into
its Bachelor of Technology programme in 1995. The selection process was the
same as that of the other IITs, i.e., through the Joint Entrance Examination In 1998,
the first batch of students were accepted into the Master of Technology program
through the GATE.

National Institute
of Technology (NIT) Silchar was started as a Regional Engineering College (REC)
in 1967. The College started its academic programme with affiliation from
Guwahati University. In 2002, it was included in the list of NITs under the
National Institute of Technology Act 2007 and was also declared as an Institute
of National Importance.
NIT Silchar offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
in engineering, science, humanities and 11 other departments. Admission to
various courses of the institute is based on the national-level entrance exams
such as JEE Main, GATE, CAT and NET.
The college currently has a student strength of 3,001
including male and female students, as well as a highly qualified faculty of
209 members with a majority of Ph.D holders.

Assam Engineering College, established in 1955, is located in Guwahati. It is the first undergraduate engineering college in the north-east India and today is a premier technical institute of eastern India. AEC has been the hub of many academic and supplementary activities in Assam. It is a public college run by the state of Assam. While the majority of students are from Assam, there are fixed quotas for students from neighboring states. The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE.

Engineering, Food Engineering and Technology, Physics and Electrical

The Dibrugarh University is a government institute located in
Dibrugarh, Assam. It was established in the year 1965 under
the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965. It is a NAAC 'A' grade university. The

Jorhat
Engineering College founded in 1960 by the government of Assam, is the second
government engineering college in Assam, northeast India. The college,
affiliated with Assam Science and Technology University, is accredited by the
All India Council for Technical Education. It was established in 10th October

The Central Institute of Technology at Kokrajhar or CIT
Kokrajhar is an institution offering courses in engineering and funded by the
Ministry of Human Resources and Development of the Government of India.
Situated in Assam in the Kokrajhar district, this institution is located only
10km from Kokrajhar Railway Station and was founded in December of 2006, from
when it has been actively offering courses to students across the country.
The Central Institute
of Technology at Kokrajhar district is a public Deemed University established

Bineswar Brahma
Engineering College (BBEC) is located at Kokrajhar in Assam. The institute is
around 5 kms away from Kokrajhar town.In the year 2006, the Govt. of Assam
declared that an Engineering College would be set up at Kokrajhar. Accordingly
after two years of the decision, the foundation stone of the college was
laid by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on 16th August 2008 at Chandrapara, a village
nearby Kokrajhar town. The college was named after Bineswar Brahma i.e. Bineswar Brahma Engineering College
(BBEC). Bineswar Brahma was an eminent member of the Bodo Community. He
was a very active social worker who had to sacrifice his life for the
development of Bodo community. He is known as “Subungthini Thandwi” among
Bodos. So, decision was made among intellectuals & this Engineering College
was named after him.
Prof. Palash Jyoti
Hazarika was the first Protem Principal of the college and the college started
functioning from the academic session 2010-11 with two branches with intake
capacity 60 in each 1. Chemical & Process Control Engineering 2. Electrical
& Instrumentation Engineering.
Bineswar Brahma
Engineering College was established in 2008 by Assam Government at Kokrajhar
district, Assam. In 2006 Assam Government announced that an engineering college
would be set up at Kokrajhar. The college is situated at a village called
Chandrapara, which is 5 km from Kokrajhar town.

In the year 2008, it was renamed as Jorhat Institute of
Science and Technology with an aim to expand the Institute. New Departments
namely Department of Computer Science and Information Technology was introduced
in the year, 2007 by introducing 3 years professional course in B.Sc. (IT) and
two Engineering Branches namely, Electronics and Telecommunications (ETC) and
Power Electronics and Instrumentation (PE&I) in August, 2009 and two more
new branches namely Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering are introduced
form the academic session 2016-17. To fulfill the Mission and Vision of the
Institute, from this acadmic session i.e August,2016, Post Graduate Degree
Courses i.e. M.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics are introduced with due
permission from the Affilliating University(Dibrugarh University) in regular
mode as well as M.Sc. in Chemistry is introduced from the academic session
2017-18.
